The Bleach Myth

Household bleach kills mold on non-porous surfaces like glass, countertops, and tiles, but cannot penetrate porous materials like drywall and wood. The EPA doesn't approve bleach for mold treatment as it damages lungs and produces harsh fumes.

Hydrogen Peroxide

A safer alternative — anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral. Works on porous surfaces. Use 3% concentration, saturate surfaces, wait 10-15 minutes, scrub with a stiff brush.

Other Methods

  • Borax — 1 cup per gallon, natural inhibitor, no toxic fumes
  • Vinegar — kills 82% of mold species, EPA approved
  • Baking soda — 1/4 tablespoon per spray bottle
  • Tea tree oil — prevents recurrence

When to Call Professionals

DIY works for areas under 10 square feet of non-toxic mold. Call professionals when mold affects HVAC systems, exceeds manageable size, or when health symptoms appear. Pure Air Nation uses hospital-grade antimicrobial products that kill mold at the cellular level. Call 412-204-7081.
